Overview

Nothing excites us more than supporting innovative organizations and initiatives, and the VELA Education Fund is an example that is no different. Formerle teamed up with two creative partners, Wild Reply and Legacy Production Company, to pull together an engaging motion toolkit and brand film for the organization’s latest brand refresh and updated content catalog. And the outcome is an entrepreneurial crowd pleaser.

Learners and Leaders.

The purpose of the VELA Education Fund is to catalyze innovation happening outside of the traditional K-12 educational system, by empowering entrepreneurs who are providing alternatives to traditional schooling through the use of grants and funding. Since 2019, VELA has been supporting leaders who are exploring education through a variety of different lenses and methods all over the United States. In that time they have invested $35 million in over two thousand entrepreneurial founders, and have impacted over five million learners nationwide. They’ve built an extensive network of founders and learners, and have impacted millions of lives by funding such educational alternatives.

To honor these leaders, and continue cultivating a community of innovative educators, VELA decided it was time to take the brand to the next level.

Education in Motion.

Fresh off the heels of an exciting branding update, from the fine folks over at Grand Effect, Formerle and a team of video partners—Wild Reply and Legacy Production Company—came together to create an engaging brand film, motion strategy and motion toolkit that supported VELA’s mission and marketing efforts. Additionally, our creative trifecta wanted to celebrate the organization’s brand new brand identity by putting it all in motion as well.

The goal of the brand film was simple; introduce new edu-entrepreneurs to VELA’s funding opportunities, their extensive founders network and the community of founders and learners being impacted by their alternative efforts.

The brand film story then inspired our motion strategy. We developed a motion strategy that complimented the playfulness of the visual identity update as well as the innovative energy of the founders and learners that are part of the VELA community. This strategy was further implemented into the motion toolkit that we developed, and goes one step further by supporting VELA’s in-house and vendor teams by allowing them to take prebuilt animation templates and use them seamlessly in each of their productions. These templates sped up the post-production time on Wild Reply’s end, which then allowed VELA to focus on the stories of their founders and how best to continue to support them through a variety of marketing efforts.

INNOVATION IS A Team Effort.

The VELA Education Fund’s branding refresh was a team effort, a not-so-new concept to this community-led organization, and is a shining example of how creative teamwork truly makes the dream work. We can’t thank Wild Reply enough for bringing Formerle and Legacy Production Company on board to be VELA’s animated storytellers, and capture the exciting energy of the wonderful entrepreneurs that are reinventing education all over our nation.
